What is the IELTS One Skill Retake?

The IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) is an innovative change to the previous IELTS retesting policies for people who took the IELTS on Computer. Unlike before, where candidates had to retake the entire test if they wanted to improve their scores, the One Skill Retake allows test-takers to resit for a specific module – Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking.

This new approach is designed to provide test takers with flexibility, and with another opportunity to demonstrate their proficiency when taking an English-language test.

Who accepts the IELTS One Skill Retake?

The OSR for IELTS General Training is not recognized for immigration purposes by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This is an important consideration if you are pursuing immigration.

The OSR for IELTS Academic is only acknowledged by a select number of post-secondary and professional institutions. To see if your institution of interest accepts the IELTS OSR, please visit our comprehensive list here.

Can I book the IELTS One Skill Retake now?

The One Skill Retake is only available to those who took the computer-delivered IELTS. Furthemore, you will have a period of 60 days from the date of your original test in which you can book an IELTS One Skill Retake and you can only do it once per full IELTS test.

After receiving your results, if you’re unsatisfied with a score in one module, you can choose to retake just that section – be it Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking. Simply fill in the One Skill Retake Registration Form and pay the fee and our staff will assist you in scheduling your OSR.
