We are currently waiting on the roll out of the IELTS One Skill Retake here in Canada. While we don’t yet know when it will roll out, we anticipate it may be at some point later this year.
At this time, it is only available in select centres in Australia.
What is the IELTS One Skill Retake?
The IELTS One Skill Retake is an innovative change to the previous IELTS retesting policies for people who took the computer based IELTS. Unlike before, where candidates had to retake the entire test if they wanted to improve their scores, the One Skill Retake allows test-takers to resit for a specific module – Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking.
This new approach is designed to save time, money, and effort for candidates while providing them with a fair chance to demonstrate their proficiency in the English language.

How will the One Skill Retake Work?
After receiving your results, if you’re unsatisfied with a score in one module, you can choose to retake just that section – be it Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking. This means you only need to concentrate on improving in the specific area.
You will have a period of 60 days from the date of your original test in which you can book an IELTS One Skill Retake, and you can only do it once per full IELTS test.
Booking this retake will be easily accessible online, further simplifying the process for you. Details on scheduling and fees will be provided once it’s officially launched.
What if I need to retake the IELTS now?
While we can’t yet provide a definite timeline for when the IELTS One Skill Retake will be available, we will share the news as soon as it arrives. We urge all our Canadian test-takers to stay patient and continue their preparation as usual in the meantime.
If you need to retake an IELTS module now, we recommend retaking the full test. At this time, we do not have enough information to guarantee the One Skill Retake will be available.
